40-DAYS MAKER’S DIET
(Introduction & First Four Days)
Sunday, February 6, 2005Introduction
This year began with the Lord impressing upon me to “get organized!” I thought it was directed toward my house; but as it has turned out, He meant my dwelling and my body. As is His character, He began working everything around me in that direction. In November 2004 I had started staying the night with my friend Vivian who is going through treatment for lung cancer, and her daughter Gail was searching for healthy Biblical ways to help her mother find healing. In January 2005, she saw Dr. Jordan Rubin on TV and was impressed to get his books. She mentioned The Maker’s Diet to me and I immediately took note that this was the Lord redirecting me to this book again. Last June 2004 I heard Dr. Rubin on a Christian radio late night program discussing his book, The Maker’s Diet and I was intrigued since he reminded me of the “eating right” diet I had enjoyed when I discovered Kathleen Baldinger’s book The World’s Oldest Health Plan in May 2001. I went online and ordered the book; read it, and began incorporating what I could.
As we discussed Dr. Rubin and his method of eating God’s way to healing and good health we began to see that we needed to begin incorporating this plan into our lives. Since I had begun doing what I could back in July within my limited budget, and had thoroughly been satisfied with it, I was able to explain the essential oils and a good bit of the organic foods I had experimented with. I had only looked at Ma Perkin’s Natural Foods store in Valdosta, and was limited because they weren't familiar with Dr. Rubin’s book or his products.
On January 2, 2005 while eating a pomegranate that my sister Dot didn't want to go bad, I began to wonder about the nutritional value of this fruit. I thought that anything that hard to eat must be very good for you. I suggested someone go online and investigate. To our amazement we learned that this fruit is a masterpiece in the Maker’s creative design. The marvelous nutritional properties make this a must for everyone wanting to get on the road to a healthy body. I began trying to locate where to buy the juice at the most available place and affordable price. I discovered it first at Ma Perkin’s; then a friend said that Publix also had it. Not only did Publix have the juice cheaper than the health food store they also had the brand that Dr. Rubin recommended - POM. It is refrigerated and in glass jars. While I was talking with the manager of the health food section, I learned that they are happy to make plenty available. I also discovered they had improved and enlarged their health food section and had a larger variety of organic items than the health food store. I was excited!
I began to check every food store I went in to find what organic items were available. To my surprise, I found that SAM’S, Wal-Mart, Publix, Winn Dixie and even Harvey’s have many items. The joy was finding out that Publix has the largest supply of organic foods in this area of South Georgia and North Florida. They also have organic meats: beef, buffalo, lamb and chicken. They also have deli meats with no sodium nitrate. As I asked for these items, I was introduced to the Meat Manager, Dairy Manager, Health Food Manager and the Assistant Store Manager - all ready and excited about helping to make everything we need for this diet available. They will even get organic turkeys for the holidays, if we let them know we want them.
I was unsure about the possibility of making this diet a reality in this rural area where we live, thinking that we would not be able to obtain all the organic foods suggested; but I have been shown that it is possible. Even the GNC Health Food store in Valdosta carries most of the health products of Dr. Rubin and endorses them.
On January 24, 2005 when Vivian went for evaluation following her first set of chemo and radiation treatments, the doctor said she no longer had the mass in her lung that was present in the beginning. Gail asked him about The Maker’s Diet, and he wholeheartedly approved of it. We began incorporating as much of the diet as we had available.
My excitement has been caught by a number of friends that started with the pomegranate juice. I have shared the vision of how this could really work well in the church if our farmers would get educated about getting back to farming God’s way for the Body of Christ. We emphasize loving the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind; but we fail to put equal emphasis on the body. In fact, I think that if the body was healthy for the glory of God, we would be able to love with the heart, soul and mind easier; as well as be more fit to reach out to the lost world. We could spend more of our energies in ministry and outreach than in praying for the sick (of which we have so many). On February 1, I had the opportunity to share this with my pastor and he immediately caught the vision about doing something at church - maybe a co-op! I introduced him to the essential oils for his daughter who has asthma and his wife who has respiratory problems. I gave him my cinnamon oil to try; he also bought the extra Maker’s Diet book I had bought.
February 3rd I had a special 30 minute time with God as part of an assignment in the study of Experiencing God, Knowing and Doing the Will of God. During this time, the Lord spoke very plainly that I was not loving him with all my body. He was quite profound in saying that I needed to make a life commitment with no turning back about getting my body healthy for His glory. As a result, I talked with my Sunday dinner group telling them my decision; and on Monday, February 7th I went shopping at Sam’s and Publix and began The Maker’s Diet. Vivian is doing it as a diseased person and I am doing it as a healthy (PTL) person - all for Him!
Day 1
Monday, February 7, 2005
Today is the first day of the rest of my life eating healthy for my Lord!
I began the day with using Frankincense and Myrrh Oil and doing breathing exercise. Since I didn’t have the foods I needed on hand, I had POM juice, hot green tea and a bite of cheese for breakfast. I boiled an egg but didn't have time to eat it.
For lunch I had the egg from breakfast with tuna, lettuce, tomato, celery and homemade organic vinaigrette dressing.
I went to Sam’s and Publix to purchase some organic meats, vegetables, fruits and staple items.
For supper I had a slow cooked seasoned and saute`d steak with a green salad and vinaigrette dressing. I ate one large strawberry for snack.
I put an organic chicken (4 pounds) into my cooker with all the ingredients for Chicken Soup/ Stock and left it to slow cook overnight. I had so much fun preparing this. Fresh ginger was a new experience for me. I had to run out to Harvey’s to get some zucchini. Although it wasn't organic, I felt it was the best at hand.
Went to Vivian’s at 11:00 excited to tell her about my first day. I had bought her some things at Publix as well. She started using most of the diet 2 weeks ago. I took ingredients to make breakfast in the morning.
Before bed I did deep breaking exercises and used Frank’nMyrrh Oil.
Day 2
Tuesday, February 8
Began morning with breathing exercise and Frank’nMyrrh Oil. Prepared Vegetable Frittata for me and Vivian and green tea. Had POM juice when I got home. Vivian and I decided to have breakfast together because it would help both of us…and Gail.
Kathy and Tim home today (Kathy still not feeling well) so I was off. Since I was home, I worked on the chicken - draining and separating vegetables; chopped chicken. I made the Coconut Milk Soup for lunch. It was really good!
For supper I had roast beef (Boar’s Head has no sodium nitrate-bought ¼ pound at Publix Deli, used only 1/2) with peppers, onion, garlic and mushrooms. For snack I had raw carrots and celery with Almond Butter - another new experience. It was really good, too. Went to Harvey’s to purchase food for tomorrow at church. Took food to church and prepared Apple Cobbler.
Went to Vivian’s at 10:30. Had to share how well things are going. She is very determined as well to get her body well for God’s glory.
Day 3
Wednesday, February 9
(Whitney’s 19th Birthday)
Started day with breakfast with Vivian. Had scrambled egg with stir fry veggies and tomato; green tea. It’s really interesting having vegetables for breakfast - but of course, I like it! I had POM juice when I got home, with my hormones.
Since I cooked at church today, I took the coconut milk soup with me to church and salad fixings. Mildred had to try the soup and was surprised to see how good it is. I was not tempted at all for the pork chops, mashed potato casserole, fried okra and apple cobbler - all of which I really like. I also took turkey breast (purchased at SAM’s with no sodium nitrate) and sliced some of it and saute`ed with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and garlic. Very good - Mildred had to try this too! She is really getting interested in eating right as well.
Called Whitney to wish her a Happy Birthday. I told her about my new eating plan. We are to have a joint birthday party for her and Amy on Saturday at her Dad’s house.
Went to Vivian’s at 9pm to watch Sue Thomas and share my day with her.
Day 4 - FAST Day!
Thursday, February 10
Today is my first FAST day, so Vivian and I didn't have breakfast together. I did fix hers and had a cup of green tea.
I went to Bodacious Salon at 9:30 for a manicure and pedicure - a gift certificate from our youth for donating the proceeds from our cookbooks to their mission trip. I have never felt so pampered. I wasn't sure how I felt about the pedicure since I don’t usually like to have my feet touched…but I am here to tell you that this was a new and wonderful experience that I would love to have done once a month. I don’t know how much it costs and I was afraid to ask. I've never had a pedicure and only had a manicure once before (my wedding day March 20, 1964) - needless to day, I have been treated graciously…and delightfully. Never had my toenails polished either. Left to pick up Katherine Hope from school. She was excited about my painted toes.
I didn’t have any problems with getting hungry, but I felt a great need for more water; so I put several bottles of purified water in the cooler.
I asked Tim and Kathy about me preparing my suppers and sharing with them. Kathy was thrilled since they seldom get to have a real meal at home. I prepared some more foods from the Maker’s Diet that I have never had before: Salmon with Pecan Pesto; Gingered Carrots from the Chicken cooked on Monday; and a green salad. Tim had not had salmon before either; but we both really liked it. Kathy loved the pecan pesto - it was good, but not necessary for me; lemon works just fine. Tim thought so too. It was really nice sitting down together and having a nice meal. Even Caleb and Khope liked the Salmon. They had green beans with theirs.
Went to Vivian’s after coming home and getting bag. She was interested in our meal, and thought it sounded very good.
I weighed today at Tim’s. Decided I ought to see if I lose weight like Vivian has. She is interested to see if this is normal. I weighed 198! Since I didn't weigh on Sunday before getting started on the diet, I will assume that I probably weighed 200!
